On the Ignatian Way
Landscape, belief and the making of an inner journey
Saint Ignatius of Loyola stands as the most universal Basque figure, founder of the Society of Jesus and a thinker whose influence reshaped spirituality, education and intellectual life across continents.
This journey follows the early stages of his transformation, moving through key sanctuaries of the Ignatian Way near San Sebastián. From his birthplace in Azpeitia to mountain sanctuaries set in dramatic natural settings, the route traces a geography where belief, architecture, and landscape converge.
Each stop reveals a different dimension of Ignatius’ legacy: places of reflection, rupture and renewal, embedded in valleys, forests and stone. The experience is not confessional, but contextual—offering insight into how territory, silence and movement shaped a spiritual vision that would later travel far beyond these hills.
Some paths are shaped not by footsteps, but by conviction.
